I can’t believe it’s already been two months since I was selected as a finalist for this year’s 25th Annual Miss Asian America Pageant. Please join me this Saturday, August 7th, at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco. Doors open at 6pm. You’ll find more information about this black tie event by visiting Miss Asian America. I am proud to represent the Korean American community! I will continue to bring awareness to the dangers of human trafficking by mentoring youth on a weekly basis and working as a team leader for non-profits. I’m usually mentoring students in creating their own school clubs or organizations related to bringing awareness to causes, including human trafficking.

The G(irls)20 Summit: WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER?
Published on April 19, 2010

“There are 3.3 billion girls and women. What’s your number? Get your unique, and randomly generated number, and be a voice to empower girls and women all over the world.”
I received some emails asking me why I posted random numbers on my Facebook profile and Twitter page. For the past few weeks, people all over the world have been posting random numbers. These posts aren’t a random occurrence; they definitely mean something and you can join in on this awesome grassroots initiative too.

So, what are these numbers? They are from the ground-breaking initiative, The G(irls)20 Summit, created by the Belinda Stronach Foundation. On June 26-27, 2010, there will be a G20 Summit where G20 leaders will gather in Toronto to discuss measures to promote global financial stability and ways to achieve a sustainable economic growth and development. The G(irls)20 Summit, scheduled for June 16-18, 2010, will precede the official G20 Summit in Toronto this year. The Republic of Korea, G20 Chair for 2010, will host the fifth summit in November in Seoul.
Women in the World Summit 2010
Published on March 22, 2010
Last week, my mom emailed me an article from The Korea Times. She knows how much I love leadership, especially when women’s rights and human rights are involved. I’ve been meaning to write about this Women’s conference awhile ago, but didn’t get the chance to do so until today. It is an article about the conference on empowering women across the globe, “Women in the World Summit,” which was held at a theater in Manhattan over the weekend beginning March 12th through March 14th.
As Jocelyn Noveck’s Huffington Post article shares, there were “prominent women” from all around the world, including:
A secretary of state. A top presidential adviser. An iconic film star. Fashion designers, TV anchors, and a queen… But they weren’t the stars of the event. It was the women’s rights and human rights activists…who drew the cheers, and sometimes tears, at “Women in the World: Stories and Solutions,” a gathering organized by Tina Brown, editor of The Daily Beast Web site, as they talked about how women have progressed and what remains to be done.
Career Speed Dating: What’s Your Match?
Published on March 9, 2010
Two weeks ago, on February 24th, I was one of six panelists (three were from government agencies and three from non-profit organizations) to speak at UC Berkeley’s career panel, “Careers in Public Service and Non-Profit Organizations.” That same day and time of my event, 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, was speaking on “Global Citizenship: Turning Good Intentions into Positive Action” at UC Berkeley as well. I had to compete against Bill Clinton? – “Great,” I thought. Surprisingly, we had a large turnout at our event. CAL undergrads’ enthusiastic approach to finding a career didn’t surprise me. Go bears!
Wednesday, April 28th, 6:00-8:00pm, UC Berkeley will be holding the event “Career Speed Dating: What’s Your Match?” at the Alumni House on campus. Career Speed Dating is designed to help student s learn how to explore career options and network with professionals. Career Speed Dating: What’s Your Match? continued »

The Vicissitudes of Life
Published on February 4, 2010
“Life’s a box of chocolates… You never know what you’re gonna get.”
Mrs. Gump, I agree. Here’s mine:
Life is like a novel. Each chapter has a beginning and an end, an up and a down. In order to interpret the second chapter, you have to read the first. The vicissitudes of each chapter makes the novel brilliant. Together, we make a novel society. *Pun intended* :)
Unfortunately, we often ignore these vicissitudes of life. A change or transition is “that difficult process of letting go of an old situation, suffering the confusing nowhere of in-betweenness, and launching forth again in a new situation” as William Bridges describes in his book, Transitions: Making Sense of Life’s Changes . Two weeks ago, we learned in class that by paying attention to one’s transitions and being more attentive to the feeling dimensions, “one can navigate more skillfully what one has to offer.” In other words, reflect on the ‘endings’ that happened in your life in order to better understand your personality so that you can move on to the next chapter in your life.

It’s Time to Plan for 2010!
Published on January 8, 2010
Happy New Year! I apologize for the slow updates. I’ve been busy, busy, busy in December, and I expect to be busier this year. Recently, I was notified of my acceptance into the executive Masters in Leadership program at Saint Mary’s College of CA. My first executive weekend begins tomorrow morning. I’m very excited! It’s going to be difficult juggling both a full time job and full time graduate program, but I’m prepared for this challenge because I know it will help me achieve my goals in life. After speaking to my mentors (my former bosses) and various alumni, including Kathleen Roscher (TSA’s Federal Security Director), and taking my time to think about it, I was able to make a sound resolution. I’m extremely confident and ecstatic with my decision to attend St. Mary’s. My future blog posts will reflect the knowledge and experience that I will gain from St. Mary’s demanding 19-month program.
It’s the time to ponder upon the changes we want to make in our lives. You have to set obtainable goals in order to be successful with your resolutions. Once you know where you’re going in life, it’ll be easier for you to plan how to get there. Create a plan for your goals as if planning for your next trip – once you pick your choice of destination, you’ll need to plan for traveling dates, purchase airline tickets, map out the places you want to visit, etc. Always expect changes. That’s life! :) Try to accomplish goals in all aspects of your life, including career, family, and in your community.

Eben Tisdale Public Policy Fellowship
Published on December 17, 2009
Life is tough for many people who are currently unemployed. My unemployed friends are using their free time traveling or going back to school. If the latter applies to you, then I’d like to tell you about the Tisdale Fellowship. It’s emotionally draining to be a college graduate from a prestigious undergradute university and find yourself jobless. Unlike lead workers who have recently been let go from their job of 20+ years, newly grads don’t have an option to file unemployment benefits, early retirement, or a huge employee severance pay.
If you’re going through some hard times as a graduate student and you’re the type of person who wants to stand out from the normal crowd, then don’t waste any time! Look for opportunities – paid or unpaid. Enjoy life to the fullest and try to get the most out of all your experiences in whatever you do. We never stop learning. If you’re interested in Law, Public Policy, or Government, then here’s a great opporunity for you – EBEN TISDALE PUBLIC POLICY FELLOWSHIP.
